ELD MANDATE FOR CANADIAN TRUCKERS Canadian Transportation is moving towards ELD Mandate in June 2021. it will be happening even with the COVID-19 challenges. Trucking Industry is facing lots of challenges since March 2020 lockdown. The market rates are very low since the pandemic starts and the truck capacity is the  same. The trucking companies are struggling to keep the trucks running and cover their expenses. The Canadian Transportation department is moving towards ELD mandate which will increase the  in the expense of the trucking companies. The cost of 1 ELD is $150 US and there will 1-2 year contract with ELD companies. Transport Canada requires transport companies to use certified ELD devices by an accredited third party certification body.The Transportation companies are not clear which company's ELD is certified by the Transportation department. ELD MANDATE CANADA 2021 Transport Minister Omar Alghabra issued a statement, saying “As Minister of Transport, I am firmly committed to this timeline – these devices will further strengthen road safety in Canada. At the same time, the impact of Covid-19 on commercial vehicle operations has been unprecedented and must be acknowledged. As such, with the support of provinces and territories, and in consultation with industry, we will work together on the successful and effective implementation of a progressive enforcement period. This will give sufficient time for industry to obtain and install certified electronic logging devices without penalty as of June 12, 2021. Early enforcement measures will consist of education and awareness.”
